Context
When your customers subscribe to one of your offers, their subscription starts. Once this step is completed, your customer will have a subscription that has its own lifecycle.
However, it is possible for your customer to request modifications to their subscription. Instead of making an offer change, you can directly modify the customer’s subscription to adapt their usage of your service.
Modifying a subscription can be done on the associated features of the subscription or directly on the structure of the subscription. This means you can modify the prices, the minimum commitment period, quantities, the activation of a feature, etc.
This modification allows you to personalize your customers’ subscriptions in detail to offer a customized usage of your service.
Subscription Modification
1/ Modifying the Fixed Amount of the Subscription
It is possible to modify the price of a subscription. This modification will be taken into account during the renewal of the subscription and will adjust the price for the next billing.
Example:
Reducing the fixed price of the subscription as of March 25th.
- Initial amount: €100
- New amount: €89
2/ Activating or Deactivating an On/Off Feature
By default, On/Off features are configured to be prorated. This means that when you modify the activation during the current period, the calculation will be prorated based on the modification date within the current period.
Example:
Subscription with a fixed amount of €100 and an On/Off feature priced at €20.
- Activation of the On/Off feature on February 25th.
Prorated calculation: €20 * 15 days / 30 days = €10 - Invoice amount of €130 on March 10th.
New fixed amount: €120 + prorated amount for the previous period of €10 - Deactivation of the On/Off feature on March 25th.
Prorated credit: -€20 * 15 days / 30 days = -€10 - Invoice amount of €90 on April 10th.
New fixed amount: €100 + prorated amount for the previous period of -€10 - Invoice amount of €100 on May 10th
It is possible to configure the On/Off feature to no longer prorate the calculation (during activation or deactivation) but use the full price.
Example:
Subscription with a fixed amount of €100 and an On/Off feature priced at €20.
- Activation of the On/Off feature on February 25th.
Full price: €20 - Invoice amount of €140 on March 10th.
New fixed amount: €120 + amount for the previous period of €20 - Deactivation of the On/Off feature on March 25th.
No prorated credit calculation. - Invoice amount of €100 on April 10th
3/ Adding or Removing a Quantity of a Limitation Feature
By default, Limitation features are configured to be prorated. This means that when you modify the quantity during the current period, the calculation will be prorated based on the modification date within the current period.
Example:
Subscription with a fixed amount of €100 and a “Users” limitation feature priced at €10 per unit.
- Addition of 2 users on February 25th.
Prorated calculation: €10 * 2 * 15 days / 30 days = €10 - Invoice amount of €130 on March 10th.
New fixed amount: €120 + prorated amount for the previous period of €10 - Removal of 1 user on March 25th.
Prorated credit: -€10 * 15 days / 30 days = -€5 - Invoice amount of €105 on April 10th.
New fixed amount: €110 + prorated amount for the previous period of -€5 - Invoice amount of €110 on May 10th
It is possible to configure the Limitation feature to no longer prorate the calculation (when modifying the quantity) but use the full price.
Example:
Subscription with a fixed amount of €100 and a “Users” limitation feature priced at €10 per unit.
- Addition of 1 user on February 25th.
Full price: €10 - Invoice amount of €120 on March 10th.
